The 4 year old: (First moments) "Mom, do you have a bandage?"
Mom: "Yes, see here on my hand" (from an IV)
The 4 year old: (With a "you are crazy mom" look) "Naw...the baby didn't come out of your arm!"
Mom: With great skill changed the topic, because, well, 4 year olds aren't supposed to ask questions like that!
The 14 yrs old: (Again on Day 1): "I hate to tell you mom, but you don't look any different."
Mom: "Um thanks, yep....I 'grew' for nine months it will take a bit longer than 'instant' to go back to normal."
The 7 year old: "Our lives would be RUINED without Malachi!"
The 14 yr old: "Mom, do people always bring meals to families that have a baby?
Mom: "Yes, and particularly in the church community....it is a way to help the mom and the family."
The 14 yr old: "Oh, yum, you should have a baby more often."
Mom: No comment.
The 7 year old: (Figuring it is just a "girl" thing) "Mom, can Macayla feed Malachi?"
The 4 yr old: "Can Malachi eat food?"
Mom: "No, he doesn't have any teeth, and God made babies to grow just from Mom's milk?"
The 4 yr old: "If he doesn't have teeth, can he have apple sauce?"
Mom: "No."
The 4 yr old: "Can't he even have juice?" (I suppose he is just thinking his brother's diet is plain boring!)
The twin "big" brothers having been asking more of the "milestone" questions...."When will he do this? Or do that? etc." They have a tender way with their baby brother and frequently ask to hold him. Justin has even wanted to learn how to change a diaper!
The big sister seems to just "know" many things about babies, but has many questions about how to care for a baby, and eagerly wants to participate in the daily needs (changing diapers, bathing, etc) of her newest little brother. She can often be heard "squealing" about how cute he is!
While we have still been hitting the homeschool books as per usual.....
I can't help but smile at the "education" that a new blessing of a baby brings to our family!
In other news......Malachi was 7 pounds at birth, and after a visit to the midwife at a few days over 2 weeks old, he is 9 pounds and 1 ounce!
The midwife was VERY impressed.
