Praying for future spouses.

I am currently half-way through a new book. "What He Must Be......if he wants to marry my daugther." by Voddie Baucham Jr. Although he primarily addresses the fathers, this is an excellent book for BOTH parents- including those with only sons! That daughters may marry well, and sons to be worthy husbands. I am reading more books that include this multigenerational vision (with a strong emphasis on the patriarch). It is a vision I pray for.....

The cover includes:
* He must have a vision for his life.
* He must guard his own heart.
* He must protect my daughter.
* He must be committed to pleasing Christ.
* He must love Biblically.
* He must avoid compromising situations.
* He must intercede for my daughter.
* He must walk in righteousness.

A high calling.....but should we settle for anything less? And all the more reason to be on our knees praying for grace and growth in both our children AND their future spouses.

I leave you with Martin Luther:

"My dear son and daugther, you need not consider praying for a pious spouse a disgrace. For you do not consider it a disgrace to ask God to give you a sound hand or leg.....Now a pious spouse is as necessary as a sound hand or leg. For if a husband or wife do not turn out well, you enjoy a few good days or hours and would prefer to have a paralyzed hand or leg instead."

This quote kind of makes me chuckle.....but there's truth there to ponder nonetheless!
